Newcastle Interchange Pickup & Return Guide

Arriving at the Interchange

Whether you’ve just stepped off the train from Sydney or arrived via the Light Rail, your Newcastle Car Rentals vehicle is waiting just moments away. Our Interchange pick-up/drop-off location is located at Lot 21 Honeysuckle Drive, offering a seamless 'train-to-car' transition that completely bypasses the CBD traffic and rental office queues.

Step-by-Step Directions to Your Car

The walk from the platform to your car takes approximately 2 minutes:
 

  • Exit the Interchange: Walk through the main station exit towards the Honeysuckle side.
     

  • Cross the road: Use the pedestrian crossing to head towards Honeysuckle Drive (walk towards the water).
     

  • Parking area: Your rental vehicle will be waiting for you in the open-air public car park at LOT 21 Honeysuckle Drive parking.
     

  • Find Your MG: Look for your rented vehicle parked in the car park. Your specific registration and parking location will be sent to you by SMS 10 minutes before your trip begins.
     

How to Unlock & Start Your Trip

Once you arrive at the vehicle, the process is 100% digital:
 

  • Smartphone Unlock: Ensure you have mobile network on your mobile phone device. Click on the unlock link that you will receive 10 mins before your scheduled booking start time. Once you're in your vehicle unlock dashboard, simply click on 'Unlock'. Your keys will be kept in a safe location for you to pick-up (more information will be sent to you via SMS).
     

  • Vehicle Inspection: Take a moment to walk around the car. Use the app to upload a few quick photos (front, back, sides, interior, fuel level, and odometer). This protects you and ensures the car is in perfect condition for your trip.
     

  • Start your vehicle: Once you have completed the check-in procedures in the Turo app, simply use thy keys to start the vehicle, and you're on your way!
     

  • Airport Exit: We’ve simplified your departure. Simply pay for the parking using your own payment means, and send us the payment receipt and your banking/Pay ID details through the Turo app. We will reimburse you for this cost.

Returning the Vehicle

Returning your car is just as easy as picking it up:

  • Navigate to Newcastle Interchange: Set your GPS to LOT 21 Honeysuckle Drive, Newcastle NSW 2300 or simply click here to be navigated to the public car park.
     

  • Park in the Zone: Park the vehicle in any available bay within the car park. Make sure you are parked in a legal spot, not blocking any roads, other vehicles or reserved parking zones.
     

  • End Your Trip: Ensure the windows are up, the fuel is at the required level, and you have all your personal belongings. Once you're ready to end your trip, simply complete any check-out procedures on the Turo app, and click on the lock link that will be sent to your mobile device by SMS, 5 hours before the scheduled end time of your trip. Once you have clicked on the lock link, simply click on the 'lock vehicle' button and you're all done! 

Local Tips for Your Journey

  • Beat the Traffic: Picking up from the Interchange puts you right on the edge of the CBD, making it much easier to head west towards the Hunter Valley or south to Lake Macquarie without getting caught in city-centre gridlock.
     

  • Coffee & Fuel: If you’re heading straight out on a road trip, there is a 7-Eleven just up the road for fuel and quick supplies.
     

  • Dining by the Water: Since you’re already in Honeysuckle, you’re walking distance from some of Newcastle’s best waterfront dining. Why not grab a meal before you drive?
